FISHING IMPACTS WORKSHOPS

On July 18, 2007 a workshop was held at the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Offices to further discuss the impacts of fishing within the sanctuary.

The workshop began with a summary of the strategies and recommendations proposed by the Sanctuary Advisory Council Fishing Impact Subcommittee. This was followed by several presentations about marine reserves, reef fish monitoring and biogeographic characterization.

After lunch, workshop participants broke into groups to discuss the possibility of establishing a research area within the sanctuary and the monitoring requirements that would entail.
